INTERESTING "ART-I-FACT" OF THE MONTH:
OIL AND WATER DON'T MIX !
As the saying goes, "oil and water don't mix" but that old adage is no longer true. Many of the paint companies have come up with water-mixable oil paints in which you no longer use solvents like turpentine, paint thinner or mineral spirits to clean bushes or use as a thinning agent. It is certainly great news for those people that love oil painting but have become very sensitive to the cleaning solvents.

The making of oil to accept water as a solvent was done over twenty years ago but that was a time when the art community consisted of a limited number of professional artists which wasn't enough to warrant the investment. Now, as college and amateur artists number's have grown and our knowledge about personal health and safety has increased, the demand is now there. For many dedicated painters, the quality of the water-mixable paints is quite acceptable and artists find it perfectly workable if the water is added in moderation, as with any solvent.
