News Letter #12 - January, 2003

Hello from Tony,

Sorry this newsletter is running so late. Maybe I should include in my New Years resolutions not to procrastinate and to get things done on time. I will try harder. Anyways, Happy New Year! Can you believe it, another year has pasted us by and we get to start all over again on those New Years resolutions and goals that just didn't pan out. I have always made a list of 10 Goals and Resolutions for the year ahead. If I accomplish 3 out of the 10 goals, well that's great. This year I plan to go full steam ahead and get things done that I failed to do in 2002. It's important to set goals. Do not set unrealistic goals that are unattainable. That will only set you up for disappointment when you fail. Achieving goals is surely uplifting and with that you will continue a positive attitude therefore accomplishing even more success. So, just DO IT!

Tina and I wish you all a Happy and Prosperous New Year and that your hopes and dreams all come true for you.

INTERESTING "ART-I-FACT" OF THE MONTH:

Finding Places to Sell your Art Work.

Ok, so you've been painting for a few years now and your art work is taking up more space than you ever thought it would. Your spare bedroom no longer has room for your guests and the garage no longer has room for the car. So what are you going to do with all that art? Sell it, of course!

It will never sell if you don't put it out there for people to see. Is your work gallery worthy? If you think not then there are plenty of other places to display in hopes to sell. You could display your work in a local art show which you would set up along with other artists. Search your local newspaper or the Chamber of Commerce to find their calendar listings. Still too intimidating for you? Ok, how about doing a one man show by displaying at your local bank, library, country club, hospital lobby, church hall or even at a hotel. It really doesn't take much to set up a display in these locations where there is much public traffic daily with a greater potential to sell your work. Of course getting permission is needed. No harm in asking, right! Publicity is helpful in promoting works displayed in this manner.

You still want more? How about displaying your paintings on the walls of a travel agency, real estate office, local hair salon, bookstore or furniture store. What about a local restaurants or cafes? If so, be sure that you hang your work high enough to prevent getting any food splattered on them. Here's an idea, you could "rent" your art work to hang in doctors or dentists offices where you could set up a contract to change the display on a monthly (or longer) basis. This would give the clientele something different to look at each time. You get enough offices in which to hang your work and that could be a beginning of a nice little business, again with the potential for sales as well. Whatever way you come up with to display your art work, it will be better than just having it sit around collecting dust in the garage. Once you start to see people stop to look at your work and then sell one or two, it makes it all worthwhile, putting a smile on your face and some money in your pocket.

Here's some helpful hints. Be sure that your work is nicely framed, signed and has either a small note or business card having information about you and the painting title as well as the selling price. If possible, have some business cards or information about the artist displayed nearby for people to take or read at leisure. You have to get your name out there and get people talking.

I do wish you luck and success and hope that I have set a spark in you to make you go out there and sell, sell, sell! (or rent)
